Strepsiptera or Stylops Twisted Wing Insect Parasite Necklace in Sterling Silver
All sterling silver necklace with a certified recycled sterling silver pendant featuring a "twisted-wing insect" (aka Strepsiptera or Stylops).
This necklace features the male of this particular order of insects -- the female is far less distinctive and lives out her life mostly buried between the abdominal segments of her host. You can see what she looks like, though, in comparison to the male, if you scroll through the listing photos to the vintage illustration. These buggos are incredibly strange -- but SO FASCINATING! I just love the wide-eyed wild "expression" of the male's face, accentuated by its very distinctive set of antennae and big feet.
This clean & simple yet totally unexpected design is the perfect, edgy go-to necklace. The necklace chain is finished with a secure & easy to close, decorative "fish hook" style clasp (see additional photos for clasp design.)
This all sterling silver necklace design is made-to-order, so please allow 2-3 weeks to have one made just for you. The necklace will be completely hand-crafted and assembled in the USA using good, old-fashioned silversmithing techniques! The completed necklace will be polished & then hand patinated for an "antiqued" finish, & then polished again to give it that high contrast, light/dark finish.
Necklace chain shown worn is 18" long
Pendant height is 3/8"
pendant width is 7/8"
